Meeting Minutes of November 11, 2021

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Jim Easterday called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Wardens Report: The meeting was held in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church’s Martha and Mary room. The meeting was preceded by “Men’s Knight Out.”

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Fr. Andrew led the Council in prayer and the Grand Knight led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Officers absent at the meeting were the Chancellor, the Advocate, the Inside Guard, the 2nd Year Trustee and 3rd Year Trustee. Twenty-eight (28) members were present and duly recognized.

Attendance: Present: 28; Total Membership: 319

Approval of Minutes: Upon motion duly made and seconded, the minutes from the October 14, 2021, meeting were approved.

 

Grand Knight’s Report

Grand Knight, Jim Easterday, gave the following report and announcements:

 

1.The Afghan Refuges collection will be held the weekend of November 13, and 14;

2.The Coats for Kids fundraiser will be held on the weekends of November 20, and November 27;

3.Breakfast with Santa will be held December 5, 2021;

4.The Catholic Charities Food Drive will be held the same weekend as Breakfast with Santa, December 4 and 5;

5.The Council is still looking for a volunteer to head up the Lenten Dinner Committee next spring;

6.The Council is in compliance with the Knights’ Safe Environment Training;

7.Special thanks for all those Knights involved with Deceased Knights Mass of November 4;

8.A special thanks to John Weber for putting together the Communion Breakfast had on September 30; and

9.The State will be holding their annual Bowling Tournament in February. More details pertaining to it will be given at a later date.

 

 

Deputy Grand Knight

The Deputy Grand Knight, Tom Watson, had no report.

 

Chaplain’s Report

Fr. Andrew was present and addressed the Council. On this Veteran’s Day he gave a special thanks to all the Knights present who served their Country.. Also, he informed the Council the Holy Spirit Church will be holding a prayer vigil for Archbishop Naumann on December 12, in the evening in recognition of his leadership as Pro-Life Coordinator for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops this past year.

 

Financial Reports

Financial Secretary Report

Tom Gaume the Financial Secretary was present. Tom presented the bills of the Council. They were:

1.Postage for Mailing Annual Dues & Miscellaneous     $300.00

2.Coats for Kids                       $2,589.82*

3.Coats for Kids material (Greg Brown)           $30.53

4.Mailing Labels and Envelopes (Annual Dues)        $40.30

6.Food for tonight’s meeting (Al Gracik & Chris Horvat)     $82.46     

TOTAL                          $3053.58

 

(* The expenditure for Coats for Kids was approved at the October meeting for $2,400. $2,310.65 of this amount was paid from the earmarked “Coats for Kids” funds carried in the Council’s Treasury. The balance came from General Funds.)

 

Upon motion duly made and seconded it was approved to pay the above referenced bills.

 

 

 

Treasurer’s Reports

Tom Spencer, the Treasurer, was present and gave the Treasurer’s report as follows:

Lector’s Address

The Lector, Gregg Brown, gave his presentation on Fr. Emil Kapaun taking an article in its entirety from the November 2021 Magnificat.

 

Membership Director

  The Grand Knight called on the Membership Director to give his report. Chad Eickholt, the Membership Director, was present. Chad announced he has an application for a new member. He indicated there would be a Membership Drive at the Church after each Mass on the weekend of December 4 & 5. Also, he indicated there would be a recruitment table set up at the “Breakfast with Santa” event on December 5.

 

 

 

Faith Director

 

  Everett Fritz as Faith Director was called upon to give his report. He had no report.

 

 

 

 

 

Family Director

 

  John Weber as Family Director was present. He gave an update on the number of people present at the Communion Breakfast on September 30. He said there were 45 in attendance. Also, he gave an update on Barbara Hagemen’s, Dan’s wife, condition. He said she had a successful hip replacement completed today, November 11. He indicated a second Rosary visit to their house is being planned. He put a motion on the floor the Council purchase “Get Well” flowers and send them to her. The motion was seconded and passed.

 

Life Director

 

Dave Boone was absent. However, in his absence the Grand Knight gave a report announcing the Council would be coordinating with the Church before the end of the year to host a “Both Are Equal” event. No date has been set yet.

 

YOUTH DIRECTOR

 

Don Watson was present and called upon to give the Youth Director report. Don said the basketball “Free Throw Contest” was now moved to early January. Help is needed and anyone wishing to volunteer should contact him.

 

Community Director

Mike Bergkamp, the Community Director was not present

 

WEBMASTER REPORT

 

Bob Long was present. He reported to the Council there is a quarterly expense of $120 charged by the host entity for the Council’s web site. He asked the Council to approve this bill and pay it against the new Council credit card recently obtained. On motion duly made and seconded the Council approved payment of the $120 fee to the host entity for the Council’s website through the use of the Council’s credit card.

 

 

Unfinished Business

  With the Director reports concluded the Grand Knight asked whether there was any unfinished business.

 

  Ken O’Bryan stood and was recognized. Ken gave a summary of the results of “Play Along Football.” Ken reported the 2021 results were the best ever with 826 tickets being sold netting a total of $11,902 with one-half (1/2) going to the Council and one-half (1/2) going to the Church. Each receiving $5,951. He said the largest ticket sales prior to this year was in 2018 when 820 were sold. In 2019, 800 tickets were sold; and in 2020, the year of the pandemic, 618 were sold.

 

  Next, Trinidad Molina stood and was recognized. Trinidad reported on the Exemplification Team. He indicated he was still three people short of forming an Exemplification Team. Whereupon, three Knights from the meeting group volunteered for the Exemplification Team. With the Team being full, Trinidad indicated he’d like to put a program together with the intent to host an Exemplification Ceremony sometime in February.

 

  Next, Greg Brown stood and was recognized. Greg reported on his progress with the Tom Maillard Memorial. Greg reminded the Council of Tom’s devotion to the Rosary and his vigilance in praying in the Adoration Chapel. Tom bequeathed a $1,000 to the Council to disburse in his memory. The Council donated $500 towards the purchase of a sonogram and the balance was used to build the current tabernacle in the Adoration Chapel which houses the Eucharist. After much discussion of several options the Council on motion duly made and seconded passed hanging a plague commemorating the late Tom Maillard permanently on the Knight wall in the hall leading to the Adoration Chapel. A group is working on the language to be inscribed on the plague.

   

  Next, Rick Trudell reported on the Afghan Refugee Collection Drive scheduled for the weekend of November 13 and 14. He passed out a sign-up sheet for anyone wishing to help to collect money before and after Mass. He asked volunteers to be there 20 minutes before Mass and stay until the Church was emptied after Mass.

 

  Next, Greg Miller reported on the results from the Catholic Food Drive for November the Knights facilitate. He said the food drive netted 1,599 lbs in food and $1,062 in cash. The next Catholic Food Drive will be the weekend of December 4 and 5.

  Finally, Greg Brown stood and was recognized. Greg updated the Council on the “Coats for Kids” Program. He said to date the Council has collected $640 in cash from the wooden donation box and $1,260 in check donations. He said he is looking for volunteers to help with collections for the Program after the Masses on the weekends of November 20, and 27. He said the 10 boxes of coats ordered (5 girls and 5 boys) have been partially received. The girls coats have been received; the boys have not. Delivery date for the boys’ coats is being followed up on.

 

      

New Business

  With “Unfinished Business” concluded, the Grand Knight reported on the logistics for the upcoming December 5, “Breakfast with Santa.” He emphasized the large need for helpers for this event as the desks now occupying the cafeteria will have to be removed the Friday before the event and put back after the event for School on Monday. The event will start at 7:45 a.m. and end at 11:00 a. m. However, food prep will have to begin at 6 a.m. He indicated every effort will be made to get the required help for this event and the Recruitment Event scheduled for the same day.

 

  After the Grand Knight spoke, Tony O’Brien stood and was recognized. Tony promoted the 24th Annual Holiday Harmony Spectacular which he will be participating in as part of the America Barbershop Chorus along with the particpation of the Kansas City Chorus of Sweet Adelines International. The event is at the Unity Village Auditorium, 1901 Northwest Blue Parkway in Unity Village Missouri on December 4, 2021. For ticket information call (816) 945-9671.

 

 

Fourth Degree Report

 

Dan Hageman, the Faithful Navigator, was absent taking care of family matters. John Weber gave his report in his absence. The Assembly doesn’t meet because of the Holidays in November and December. The next meeting is scheduled for January 17, 2022.

Prayers Requested

 

  Before closing the meeting the Grand Knight asked whether any Brother Knight wished to request prayers for the sick and distressed. The names for which prayers were requested were:

1.Continued prayers for Barbara Hageman, Dan’s wife is receiving cancer treatment.

 

 

Adoration

 

Jerry Gerstberger was present. He said the Adoration Chapel was open and there were nine (9) Knights who attended last Wednesday’s Adoration. He said there was space for eighteen (18).

 

 

 

50 / 50 DRAWING

 

There was a 50/50 drawing at the meeting. Fr. Andrews won $12.00 .

 

After a prayer, the meeting closed at 8:25 P.M.

 

Next Meeting is December 9, and the next Officers’ Meeting is December 2.
