Meeting Minutes of July 8, 2021

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Jim Easterday called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Wardens Report: The meeting was held in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church’s Martha and Mary room. The meeting was preceded by “Men’s Knight Out.”

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Fr. Andrew Strobl led the Council in prayer and Grand Knight Jim Easterday led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Officers absent at the meeting were the Advocate, the Warden, and the Second Year Trustee. Thirty-three (33) members were present and duly recognized.

Attendance: Present: 33 Total Membership: 319

Approval of Minutes: Upon motion duly made and seconded, the minutes from the June 10, 2021, meeting was approved.

 

Chaplain’s Report

Fr. Andrew as he likes to be called addressed the Council before excusing himself to attend another obligation. He extended to the Knights his gratitude for being invited to the Council meeting. He accepted the position as Chaplain for the Council. He thanked the Council for all the work and contribution they make as a group and individuals to the Church and Parish.

 

Insurance Agent Report

  

Our Field Agent, John Rodriguez was present and asked to give his report out of order because of a subsequent engagement he needed to attend. He emphasized to the Council members the need to do an annual Financial Review. He made it known to the Council of his availability to conduct such a review with any member and his availability to do a second review should any member had one done with another Financial Advisor.

 

He informed the Council of his pleasure in Supreme’s decision to rid all Councils of the requirement of obtaining a certain number of new benefit recipients each year as a requirement of qualifying for the Star Council Award. He indicated the emphasis now is on Legacy Planning through financial education so each member and his family ends financially independent. With this in mind he reminded the Council of the Insurance Benefit Night Webinar being offered July 28, @ 7 P.M. He informed the members they would be receiving an e-mail on how to connect to the webinar and encouraged them to attend.

 

He said you did not need to be a member to participate and encouraged the Council to advertise the upcoming event in the Bulletin, on their webpage, through social media, etc. He suggested it could be a good recruitment tool for the Council. He indicated the Life Insurance products offered by the Knights will continue to be available to Knight Members only, but when the roll out of mutual funds comes, this product will be available to the public.

Grand Knight’s Report

Before giving his report he acknowledged the presence of Fr. Thomas Tank among the Council members. Fr. Tom took a moment and addressed the Council and was given a warm welcome.

Grand Knight, Jim Easterday gave the following report:

 

First, he asked all the Knights present who served in a last year’s Officer capacity to stand and be recognized. He thanked each for their service to the Council, especially Rick Trudell and Rich Triola who filled the vacancies of Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight.

 

Next, he awarded Rick Trudell the past Grand Knight badge and asked him to address the Council regarding the Fraternal year of July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022 Budget. Rick Trudell was recognized and gave a presentation of this year’s budget. On motion duly made and seconded the budget proposal as presented was adopted and it is incorporated into these minutes.

 

Thereafter the Grand Knight:

1.Informed the Council there would be no installation of Officers tonight as the District Deputy was ill and would be included in our prayer list this evening;

2.Thanked all the Knights who cooked for the Religious Freedom Rally and participated in helping carry out the event;

3.Requested all Directors to send him a list of their events for the fraternal calendar so they could be included in the fraternal calendar of events and facilities could be secured with the Parish to host the appropriate events;

4.Thanked all those who participated in the 99th birthday parade for Jack McGranaghan; and

5.Pasted around thank you cards from the Archdiocesan Vocations Director and the Little Brothers of the Lamb for donations given to them by the Council.

 

 

Deputy Grand Knight

The Deputy Grand Knight, Don Watson, had no report.

 

Financial Reports

Financial Secretary Report

Tom Gaume the Financial Secretary was present. Tom presented the bills of the Council. They were:

1.Beverages for the Council’s meeting (Al Gracik brought)    $59.40

2.Food for the Council’s meeting (Chris Horvat brought)    $122.74

 

Upon motion duly made and seconded it was approved to pay the above referenced bills.

 

Also, he reported the Council received a $100 donation from Jack and Anne McGranaghan.

 

Treasurer’s Reports

Ton Spencer, the Treasurer, was present and gave the Treasurer’s report as follows:

Bank Balance on hand:             $22,899.99

Less: earmarked Coats for Kids’ fund         $ 2,290.65

Less: earmarked Donations for Seminarians fund $ 4,007.00

Remainder           $16,602.34  

(This remainder balance includes the deposits for the recent “Baby Bottle” Fundraiser event.)

 

 

Lector’s Address

The Lector, Gregg Brown, gave his presentation on the subject “Was Joseph the True Father of Jesus?” from the book A Man Named Joseph written by Joe Heschmeyer.

Membership Director

  The Grand Knight called on the Membership Director to give his report. Chad Eickholt, the Membership Director, gave an update on the two ideas he had to boost retention and increase membership. They were:

 

1.A “meet and greet” event at Mr. P’s inviting the Parish Deacons, our new Pastor Andrew Strobl, and Father Thomas Tank, the Parish, and Council; and

2.Televised events like sports, movies, etc. using the big screen in the Martha and Mary room inviting the Council members and men of the Parish to attend.

  There was no report.

 

   

 

Life Director

 

There was no report.

 

 

Community Director

There was no report.

 

 

Unfinished Business

  With the Director reports concluded the Grand Knight asked whether there was any unfinished business.

 

Whereupon Ken O’Brya was duly recognized and gave a report on the “Play Along Football” fundraiser. He said he was passing out tickets to Knights present and would be selling chances after Masses. He passed around a sign-up sheet for help with the project after Masses.

Thereafter Chad Eickholt was recognized and put a motion on the floor for a $100 request to pay for the two priests’ and two deacons’ entertainment at the meet and greet being planned. The motion was duly seconded and passed.

 

Thereafter Tom Gaume, the Financial Secretary, informed the Council of the need to change the signators on the regular checking account at Security Bank removing the past Grand Knight, past Financial Secretary, and past Treasurer and replacing them with Jim Easterday, Grand Knight, Don Watson, Deputy Grand Knight, Tom Guame, Financial Secretary, and Tom Spencer, Treasurer. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

 

Finally, Ken O’Bryan was duly recognized and informed the Council the signatures on the “Play Along Football” bank account needed to be changed removing Fr. Ric Halvorson, and the past Grand Knight and replacing them with Fr. Andrew Strobl, Pastor, Jim Easterday, Grand Knight, and continuing his name, Ken O’Bryan on the account. Upon motion duly made and seconded the motion passed unanimously to change the signatures on the account to Fr. Andrew Strobl, Pastor, Jim Easterday, Grand Knight, and retain Ken O’Brien as signators on the account.

 

     

New Business

  With “Unfinished Business” concluded, the Grand Knight asked whether anyone had any new business to bring up with the Council.

 

Greg Davis stood and was recognized. Greg informed the Council with the Fraternal Budget being passed and calling for an outing to a Royal Baseball Game and Golf Outing he sought consent from the Council to schedule the Royal Baseball outing in September and the Golf Outing in October. After a discussion the Council approved those months for the events and delegate to Greg to pick a date within those months for the events based upon availability.

 

Thereafter, the Grand Knight expressed his desire to continue to have the Communion Mass and breakfast following the Communion Mass on every fifth Sunday of a month. He requested someone pull it together. John Weber has put the event together in the past, but was not present. John Weber is to be contacted for his help in organizing these events.

 

   

Fourth Degree Report

 

The Grand Knight called upon the Faithful Navigator and inquired whether he had anything to report to the Council. Dan Hageman, the Worthy Navigator, was present.

 

Dan announced the Assembly’s chalice was given to newly ordained Fr. Thomas Maddock. Also, he announced there would be no Assembly meetings in July and August. The next meeting is scheduled for September 20, 21 the regular meeting night, the third Monday of the month. He said the meeting will be preceded by a pot luck dinner starting around 6 P. M. just like before the pandemic.

 

 

KNIGHT AND FAMILY OF THE MONTH

 

The Grand Knight reported the Knight and Family were as follows:

District Deputy Comments

 

The District Deputy, Richard Warwick, was reported ill. There was no report.

 

 

For the Good of the Order

 

Prayers Requested

 

  Before closing the meeting the Grand Knight asked whether any Brother Knight wished to request prayers for the sick and distressed. The names for which prayers were requested were:

 

1.Richard Warwick, District Deputy who has a serious illness;

2.Mike McCray was taken to hospital with serious medical issues,

3.Agnes Lohman who is 95;

4.Ruthann Batliner mother in law of Brian Wagner; and

5.Connie Marzen, Music Director and Teacher at Holy Spirit School

 

Adoration

 

Jerry Gerstberger was present. He said the Adoration Chapel was open and there were nine (9) Knights who attended last Wednesday evening Holy Hour.

 

50 / 50 DRAWING

 

Brian Wagner won the 50/50 drawing. He received $12.
