Meeting Minutes of May 12, 2022

Call to Order: Grand Knight, Jim Easterday, called the meeting to order at 7:00p.m.

Warden’s Report: The meeting was held in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church’s Martha and Mary room.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: The Chaplain led the Council in prayer and the Grand Knight led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Officers absent at the meeting were the Recorder, Advocate, Warden, Outside Guard, Trustee 2nd Year and Trustee 3rd Year.

Attendance: Present: 31; Total Membership: 316

Approval of Minutes: Upon motion duly made and seconded, the minutes from the April 21, 2022, meeting was approved.

 

Grand Knight’s Report

Grand Knight, Jim Easterday, gave the following report and announcements:

 

Welcomed Ralph Millard who is transferring to our council from Junction City. Ralph and his wife look forward to becoming familiar with the Johnson County area.

Received thank you notes from St. Thomas Aquinas, Villa St. Francis and Catholic Charities thanking us for our monetary contributions.

Introduced Pete Curtis, Field Director for Value Them Both (VTB). Pete is visiting several counties to spread the word on VTB.

There will be a VTB meeting on May 24 at 4PM in the St. Isidore Room for those interested in volunteering to help with VTB.

Our Council will have a voter registration drive at Holy Spirit for VTB on Jun 11, 12 ,18 and 19 after all the Masses. Will need volunteers.

Our Council received several awards from State and District for the Vocation Poster Contest. Julianne Ella’s poster won both the State and District Award for 7th / 8th Grade. Sophia Leach’s poster won District Award for 5th / 6th Grade. Nikka Rose won District Award for Special Needs Category.

Fun Fair is May 25. We have been asked to cook hot dogs and hamburgers plus pick up the beer.

Parish Picnic is June 4. Again, we have been asked to cook hot dogs and hamburgers.

Parish Garage Sale is June 2, 3 and 4. Need volunteers to help with the collection of items the weekend before (May 28 & 29). Also, to help with cleanup on June 4.

May 29 is Corporate Communion Sunday. Will need servers, lectors and Eucharistic Ministers. Also, need to make your reservation with John Weber to attend the breakfast which follows immediately after the 9 AM Mass.

 

 

 

Deputy Grand Knight

Don Watson did not have anything to report this month.

Chaplain’s Report

Fr. Andrew mentioned that there could be 11 new seminarians this coming year. There could be as many as 4 from Holy Spirit in addition to our current seminarian.

 

Financial Reports

Financial Secretary Report

Tom Gaume presented the one bill for reimbursement as follows:

Jim Easterday for Food $64.76

 

Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was approved to pay the above referenced bill.

Treasurer’s Report:

Tom Spencer presented the following report:

 

Bank Balance on hand (As of May 12, 2022):        $31,341.27

 

Less: 7 Outstanding Checks Totaling : $ 5,362.21

 

Current Bank Balance: After all Checks have cleared $25,979.06

 

 

Less: earmarked Coats for Kids fund         $ 6,425.34

Less: earmarked Donations for Seminarians fund $ 3,357.00

 

Effective Balance $16,196.72                 

 

 

Lector’s Address

Greg Brown, gave the Lector’s report on Value Them Both (VTB). He talked about the VTB amendment that will be voted on Aug 2, 2022. He encouraged all Knights to support this very important amendment by prayer, phone calls, door to door visits, yard signs, bumper stickers etc. Greg suggested that we pray the Memorare daily. Greg also introduced Pete Curtis, Field Director for VTB (who spoke earlier). Pete came forward and again talked about the importance of voting “yes” on Aug 2, 2022 for the VTB amendment.

 

Membership Director

Chad Eickholt was absent, however, Trinidad Molina informed the council that an Exemplification Ceremony was being planned for Sunday, June 12. Fr. Andrew will not be available that day so Trinidad will check to see if Fr. Tom is available. In addition, it was noted that we would need 6 new members to meet our membership goal of 15 this fiscal year since we have a negative 2 towards membership this year. Therefore, we need a total of 17 new members.

 

 

Faith Director

 

  Everett Fritz was absent.

 

Family Director

 

  John Weber was absent, however, it was mentioned that reservations for the Communion Breakfast on May 29 need to be made with John. Also, that on behalf of the Knights, John, Rosemary, Trinidad and Rick helped to serve breakfast to the Women of Spirit this past Saturday morning.

 

 

Life Director

 

Dave Boone thanked all who helped to distribute Baby Bottles this past weekend. The bottles are due back by Father’s Day weekend, June 18 & 19. Last year over $ 6,000.00 was collected.

 

 

YOUTH DIRECTOR

 

Don Watson did not have anything to report this month.

 

Community Director

 

Mike Bergkamp did not have anything to report this month.

 

 

WEBMASTER REPORT

 

Bob Long and Eric Sevart will work together on the K of C Facebook page.

 

EXEMPLIFICATION REPORT

As mentioned earlier, Trinidad Molina said we will be having an Exemplification Ceremony on June 12.

 

 

Unfinished Business

The next Catholic Charities food drive is the weekend of June 4 & 5.. Volunteers are needed to man the food truck and to collect money.

A motion was made and seconded to elect the nominees for the Elected Officer positions for Fiscal Year 2022-2023. There was only one nominee for each office. The motion was unanimously approved with each Officer being elected by acclamation. The Office and Officer is as follows: Grand Knight, Jim Easterday; Deputy Grand Knight, Don Watson; Chancellor, Tony Schroeder; Recorder, Everett Fritz; Treasure, Tom Spencer; Advocate, Rod Hoffman; Warden, Mike Bergkamp; Inside Guard, David Schatte; Outside Guard, Bill Ramsey; Trustee 1st Year, Rick Trudell; Trustee 2nd Year, Trinidad Molina; and Trustee 3rd Year, Greg Davis.

Ken O’Bryan is working on getting tickets together for the upcoming Play Along Football season. Ken will not be available the last 3 weeks so will need a volunteer to take his place.

 

   

New Business

  Phil Fowler reported that the Tootsie Roll drive this fall will be the weekend of October 7,8 and 9. In addition, Phil was presented with a Kansas State Council certificate in recognition for our Council’s participation in the Tootsie Roll drive.

Dave Boone was presented a Kansas State Council certificate for our Council’s participation in Culture for Life.

 

 

   

 

Fourth Degree Report

 

Dan Hageman, the Faithful Navigator, reported that the next Assembly meeting will be on May 16. The next 4th Degree Exemplification Ceremony will be on June 11 in Wichita.

Prayers Requested

 

Tom Gaume asked for prayers for his brother Jim who had suffered a fall.

 

 

Adoration

 

Jerry Gerstberger was present. He reported that 12 people attended the Wednesday night Adoration hour. There is room for 6 more.

 

 

50 / 50 DRAWING

 

There was a 50/50 drawing at the meeting. Ken O’Bryan won the 50/50 drawing of $26.

 

 

ACCUMULATION DRAWING

 

The Attendance Prize Accumulation amount this evening is $82. Marcus Kain’s name was drawn. He would have won the $82. had he been present.

 

After a prayer, the meeting closed at 8:15 P.M.

 

The next Council meeting is Jun 9, 2022 in the Martha and Mary Room. The next Officers’ meeting is May 26, 2022.
