Jack was born July 4, 1922

Jack was born on July 4th, 1922 in Falls City, Nebraska to Charles Louis and Zita Johnston McGranaghan. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Louis, Helen, Andrew, Gertrude, Zita and Robert.

In 1931, in the midst of the Great Depression, Jack’s mother died. Subsequently he was raised by his three loving aunts in the village of Hancock, New York in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. After graduating high school, he attended Quoddy Radio School in Eastport, Maine. He then served his country in the Army Air Corps as a technical sergeant RADAR specialist in Italy, Corsica and North Africa. After returning home and completing training at RCA Institutes, he was employed by the General Electric Company in Syracuse, New York. In October 1951 he married the love of his life, Anne Scullin. Together they raised four children in New York, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and Kansas, until he retired from GE in 1985.

Jack was a humble man of faith. He was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was the “green bean” man at St. Mary’s Food Kitchen and attended daily mass until his health failed. Jack was a member of  Serra Club, supported the Vitae Society and Kansans for Life. He loved to tinker around the house and could fix about anything. Jack and Anne traveled the United States, visiting most of the state capitols. He was most proud of his Eagle Scout badge and serving his country. His greatest joys were his faith, family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife Anne of 70 years and his four children, Kathleen (Ron) Geldhof, Meg McGranaghan, Tom (Tara) McGranaghan, Michael (Staci) McGranaghan, grandchildren Patrick McGranaghan, Amy Jo (Marcus) Mitchell, and two great grandchildren John Charles (Jack) and William Thomas (Willy) Mitchell.

Jack was a faithful husband, loving father and loyal friend. May God have mercy on his soul.
